Expert Tips for Replanting Flowers in Charlotte & Weddington

Replanting flowers is as much about preparation as it is about planting.

Charlotte and Weddington sit in USDA Hardiness Zones 7b–8a, offering a climate with warm summers and mild winters.

Here, as elsewhere, timing is key—spring is the best time to replant, as it will give your flowers time to establish roots before any extreme weather arrives. Avoid replanting during the hottest part of the day to protect plants from heat stress. Early mornings or evenings are best.

Begin with healthy soil. Test your soil’s pH and enrich it with organic compost to improve drainage and provide necessary nutrients. Flowers like daylilies, black-eyed Susans, and hydrangeas thrive here, adapting well to replanting and supporting our local pollinators.

When you’re replanting, handle the flowers with care. Dig a hole twice as wide and as deep as the root ball, place the plant with its crown level to the ground, and backfill with quality soil. Water thoroughly to help roots settle and add mulch to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Water consistently for the first two weeks, being careful not to overwater.
